MyKeyFinder is a free key finder program that's easy to use and super helpful, especially if you need to reinstall a software program.

This key finder tool is also useful if you need to reinstall Windows because you can easily save the Windows product key in just a matter of seconds.

Important: Please read my Key Finder Programs FAQ for more general information on key finder programs.

More About MyKeyFinder

Here's a quick pro/con list I made after looking at MyKeyFinder, including a list of the operating systems and programs that it can find product keys and serial numbers for:

Pros:

  • Isn't hard to use
  • Can easily copy keys to the clipboard
  • Able to ignore/blacklist programs that display incorrect keys
  • Lets you search through the results
  • Lets you add custom registry keys for MyKeyFinder to scan
  • Can print the list of keys
  • Can save one or more keys to an encrypted PDF file
  • Small download that's around than 5 MB
  • Finds keys for Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP
  • Finds serial numbers for VMware as well as some Microsoft Office products

Cons:

  • Doesn't find the key for my install of MS Office 2013
  • Doesn't support a large variety of programs
  • Finds keys for programs that don't even use product keys
  • Takes a bit longer to find serials than similar key finder programs (since it finds so many)
  • Asks for a donation each time the program is closed
  • Some features only work if you purchase the Plus version

My Thoughts on MyKeyFinder

I like MyKeyFinder because it provides an easy way to save product keys to a PDF file and/or print them off.

You can choose one or more keys to save or choose all of them from MyKeyFinder's list of results. It saves the application name (or Windows version), Windows Registry path where the product key was found, and the serial number.

Another easy way to save product keys in MyKeyFinder is to just choose Copy to clipboard. This lets you save just the key and nothing else so you can paste it somewhere specific and use it later.

On the program's main screen is a plus sign (+) you can use to manually add a program and its serial number. This is useful if you already know the information and would like it to be a part of the list. Otherwise, it's rather useless.

Apart from the search tool and export features, there's really nothing else to the MyKeyFinder program, which would be a good thing for avoiding clutter... however, because the program gathers product keys for lots of software that don't even use keys (two examples being Dell Backup and Recovery and SIV), it does kind of look like a mess at times.

Then again, you do have the option to hide those items, but that may still take a long time. When I ran a scan with MyKeyFinder, it gathered over 400 keys!

Something I don't like is that although some of the features look free, you can't use them unless you purchase the Plus version.

This includes options like scanning external hard drives for keys, reading wifi passwords, and disabling advertisements.

Note: After you've installed MyKeyFinder, you'll be required to register for free. It just asks for your name and email address, and it's completely free.
